New Canaan, CT is that
quintessential New England town. Picturesque and
charming in every regard, New Canaan retains an
elegant country feel with many gracious estates and
beautifully designed residences gracing its tree
lined streets.
Many local area residents consider the downtown area
of New Canaan to be among the most beautiful and
pedestrian friendly towns in Connecticut. Shops,
fine restaurants and one-of-a-kind specialty stores
contribute to the friendly, neighborhood character
of the central village district.
Originally established as “Canaan Parish” in 1731,
New Canaan retains its Colonial era heritage in both
its remaining historical homes and much of its
current architecturally sensibility. New Canaan is
also noted for many surviving homes of the
Mid-Century Modern style, with the works of Philip
Johnson and the members of the Harvard 5 receiving
local and international attention.
Today, New Canaan is a highly desirable residential
community with excellent schools and public
facilities. The town pool, Waveny House, numerous
open spaces, an abundance of youth activities and a
generous selection of cultural outlets contribute to
the friendly village atmosphere. |
